Our heartfelt congratulations to Paul Benney for his Coronation State Portrait of Queen Camilla which was unveiled alongside the portrait of King Charles III on the 6th of May 2025 at the National Gallery.
Commissioned by The Royal Collection to mark two years since the Coronation, the portrait depicts the Queen wearing her Coronation dress standing next to her Robe of Estate and Crown (formally Queen Mary’s Crown, fashioned for her 1911 coronation). Paul had six sittings in the Garden Room at Clarence House.
The portrait beautifully captures the Queen, as acknowledged by both the Queen herself and her daughter, Laura Lopes, to which Paul said: “The Queen has said nothing but wonderful things about it – but more importantly Laura, her daughter, likes it. And you know when the kids like it that you’re probably on the right track.”
The painting will be on display in the National Gallery’s Central Hall until Thursday 5th of June 2025 before moving to Buckingham Palace.
