On 23 June the 33-year-old Singer Sargent of his generation – known for his sumptuous portraits of society – unveiled his most prestigious commission yet. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s first official portrait was displayed at Cambridge University’s Fitzwilliam Museum and plastered on the front page of every newspaper. ‘It’s just an insane privilege,’ he laughs when asked how that felt. ‘One of the most extraordinary moments of my life to be chosen to paint that picture.’Tatler
