Nick Bashall (b.1956)

Artist Biography

Nick Bashall is a British-born and Zimbabwean-raised portrait artist who, following a law degree from Cambridge and several years as a practising lawyer, recognised he had a facility for art and particularly painting from life. He subsequently moved to Mallorca to train under Spanish artist Joaquín Torrents Lladó. Throughout his distinguished career, Bashall has captured poignant historical moments, including the landing of The First Parachute Battalion in Pristina, and serving as the first foreign artist allowed into Kabul to paint scenes from the conflict. Renowned for his lifelike detail and emotional depth, Bashall’s work includes military commissions, such as the portrait of Kate Nesbitt MC for the Royal Navy and is held in private collections worldwide.
