Nicky Philipps (b.1964)

Artist Biography

Nicky Philipps is a celebrated British portrait artist whose work is influenced by the great portraitists of the 19th and 20th centuries. After training at the City & Guilds of London Art School and the Cecil-Graves Studio in Florence, Philipps became known for her royal commissions, including portraits of Princes William and Harry for the National Portrait Gallery and Eton College, HRH The Princess Royal for The Fishmongers’ Company, and HM Queen Elizabeth II for The Royal Company of Archers, Royal Mail, and the Royal Collection. Her portraits are recognised for their accuracy while retaining energy via broad, dramatic brushstrokes and are on permanent display in prestigious collections, such as the National Portrait Gallery and Buckingham Palace.
