Paul Benney (b.1959)

Artist Biography

Paul Benney is an acclaimed British portrait artist who regards the representation of the human face as a profound visual statement: “It is both a mirror and a projection, it should shed light on ourselves as well as the subject.” This insight and his technical mastery have made Paul one of the most prominent portraitists of his generation, earning him global recognition, including commissions such as the Coronation State Portrait of Queen Camilla and portraits of seven Holocaust survivors for The Prince of Wales. With exhibitions and residencies at major venues like the National Portrait Gallery and Somerset House, his sitters have included figures ranging from HM Queen Elizabeth II to Mick Jagger, and his paintings are held in public and private collections worldwide.
